Summary of 2024

“Little Charmers” quilt, Excellence Award in Holmes Realistic Bird Art Prize, 2024

2024 was off to a cracking start, I was a finalist in the Local Contemporary Art Prize with my artwork “Sands of Time”, which sold on opening night. Pictured is myself with the luck new owner. It was an artwork of a favourite beach of mine, where I spent my teenage years. Lucky, wasn’t I to live there.

I am still on the Queensland Wildlife Artists Society committee, and value the friendships and connections I have made through this wonderful group of like minded people. We exhibited at Mt Coot-tha, which was a great success.

My gallery committments continued throughout the year, and kept me busy making lots of embroideries, the most popular being beach scenes, with wildflowers a close second. Lucky I enjoy making both!

Once again I was honoured to be a finalist in the Holmes Realistic Bird Art Prize, and very surprised to be awarded an Excellence award! How special!

I had some of my quilts professionally photographed and now have prints of them on offer in the galleries and at exhibitions. The plan was to also get them online, but sometimes I just get so busy with making art that the administrative tasks fall behind. There is a certain joy that people get by purchasing in person, so not too worried just yet about not having got that task done.

On a personal note, it was an extra special year for me as we welcomed into the family our first granddaughter. Needless to say, there has been baby sewing, knitting and cuddling going on behind the scenes as well. It has been lovely to pull out my old Topkids magazines from when my own children were small and make use of their fabulous patterns.

Wishing all of my followers a very happy 2025, full of art, nature and creativity.
