I entered two floral quilts in to the Queensland Quilt show this year, and each was awarded a third prize ribbon in their categories, a big shout of thanks to my prize sponsors, Gatton Quilters, Victorian Textiles, Quality Always and Queensland Quilters.
To tell you a little about each quilt – the top one is titled “Cabbage Whites” and was inspired by the cabbage white butterflies feeding on the dandelions that I photographed down my road. I was wanting to capture the way dandelion stalks hold the flowers above the other plants growing around and underneath. I used inks to paint the details which were then appliqued on to a hand dyed background fabric.
The second quilt is a study in wildflowers that grow in my area. I used four different plants. The purple vanilla lilies were painted then cut out and all the other plants were cut from hand dyed fabrics. The background fabric was dyed to suit. There are also dyed yarns couched down.
